Executive Headquarters, Idaho Milk Products – Idaho
Big D Construction Company of Salt Lake City, UT
Jerome, ID

Mead & Hunt was designer of record for architectural and structural systems as part of a design build team led by Big-D Construction for a new 112,000 SF milk powder concentrate and milk permeate processing plant. The building has five levels for two dryers, an evaporator and a wet processing room.

Randy Page provided Architectural design services in support of the design-build team, focusing on the two-story, 15,000 SF executive office area of the plant. The executive offices provide a distinct component of the plant reflecting the corporate identity of its owners and operators. He also participated with Big D in providing construction administration services throughout its construction.

Exterior design features include the use of glazed curtain walls, brushed aluminum panels and concrete tilt-up construction to complement the industrial features of the plant beyond. The public entrance canopy/balcony extends out from the second floor Conference Room to provide visitors a view of the Snake River Valley to the east. Design work at the interior of the executive offices included: coordination of custom flooring, lighting and ceiling finishes; an open glazed stairway from the Lobby up to the Executive Suite; custom reception counters at both levels; casework and open work station partitions for administrative staff; layout of lab operations with specialized casework and equipment; and locker and shower facilities for plant personnel working in a sterile production facility.

Since start up, the plant has won two awards for excellence from Mountain States Construction for best in Industrial class for 2009 and the Intermountain Construction award. Professional Services completed 2008 – Construction completion 2009.
