Design, understood as a conceptual method, is also an excellent starting point to address the problems with experts and specific professionals and to launch prevention policies in the area. The culture of “project design” starting from the recovery and reuse of an available material at no cost, as in the case of wood destroyed by natural disaster, becomes the main player in a relaunch project, the object and material available for transformation by giving it new skills, creating products specifically designed for architecture and interiors by fostering a circular economy.

S-Wood
is the result of the responsiveness of Mauro Scagliarini, a creative entrepreneur who, following the natural disaster of 2018, activated an operation to reuse, convert and relaunch spruce wood, an event linked to a disaster. From the recovery of logs knocked down by the storm and dragged downstream by raging waters to developing a wood re-design and innovation project that resulted in a concept and research for finished products intended for design. The brand's history is marked by a sustainable and ecological vocation in the concrete meaning of the terms. Storytelling thus takes on added value and differentiates from the choice of woods with different origins. To date, this business can be regarded as an exemplary educational project that effectively acts and implements respect and protection of the environment. A boundless love for its territory, that of Belluno, and a concrete desire to create economic prospects

Here we are writing about architectural materials, research and product innovation for design for buildings, furniture and interior design. In parallel with new materials for architecture and design being introduced to the market, we can argue that we are witnessing an upswing in the attention and sensitivity for wood expressed by designers and also by the end consumer because wood, a natural material, is in itself ecological and sustainable, obviously if accompanied by planned reforestation , recognised as a raw material that has always existed in the history of construction and interiors, flooring, cladding and indoor and outdoor furniture production, which seems to resist any changes in taste and trends expressed by designers and also by the end consumer. In a general moment of uncertainty due to various causes, not least covid and everything it has generated, the pleasure of living in spaces surrounded by wooden surfaces where wood is visually present as a specific material and also characterised by its visual, perceptive, tactile and evocative qualities is being rediscovered. One could even speak of empathic, aesthetically appealing and suggestive material because of the warmth and sense of well-being. But, what are the technical.

But, what are the technical characteristics of the wood products offered by S-Wood? Using wood outdoors is interesting and contemporary, while acknowledging that wood, as a natural material and exposed to weather and outdoor temperatures, can lighten and change colour, take on a different appearance and is a material that tends to absorb water and moisture.

The Belluno-based company treats the surface to mitigate these natural constraints to protect the wood from the influence of the sun's rays and the elements, making it more impermeable to water and improving its durability characteristics. Dimensional stability and increased hardness make it less susceptible to dents, scratches and surface damage.

Why should an architect, a designer use S-WOOD in their projects?? Spruce wood is treated and made strong and flexible, and repels water and moisture, preventing rotting of the wood. It is treated with non-toxic substances for people, animals and actually repels pests and insects. S-Wood products are suitable for wall cladding, decking for outdoor flooring, brize soleil panelling, and sunshades. They are high performing technological products with specific technical characteristics. Three product lines are derived from an industrial production chain obtained from recovered wood and processing waste. These products are consistent with a recent interior and outdoor trend, as already mentioned. Suitable for cladding indoor and outdoor walls with a raised planking effect, a sort of partial or full-height boiserie.
