Copper, brass, steel: PLANIUM’s design has studied the chromatic, sensory, tactile and especially visual effects of oxidized metal to get to scenic solutions that bordered on art. Both for the past edition of the Fuorisalone and for the imminent April 2023, the Milanese brand reserves its main exhibition space for this theme from a conceptual point of view in the prestigious setting of Brera. Plates, tapestries, mirrors, tables, interior coverings. But not only that: previously PLANIUM had conceived basic textures obtained through oxidations. In the brand the variety of metals gives life to different collections: Charme, Silver, Eclipse, Metal-morphosis.

Silver Collection is dedicated to steel: it is a nature linked to cold, elegant hues, close to the world of industrial inspiration design. Charme Collection focuses on hot tones: copper belong to it with its league, brass. Eclipse Collection considers two steel oxidations, Calamine and precisely oxidized Steel, this with tones halfway between the warm and cold.

Metal-Morphosis is instead the collection presented last year on the occasion of Milan Design Week, which contains pieces that are the union of art and design: artistic plates, tapestries, surfaces for an increasingly innovative and captivating interior design. The chromatic oxidations of Metal morphosis reach through the nuances and colors numerous artistic scenarios reminiscent of the water-termination union, with a strong presence of turquoise and copper, but also cartographies or forest representations when the predominant colors are the greens and the yellows, the whole reminding, among other things, in part of Impressionism and partly of Abstractionism

Metal textures can be brushed or satin. The brushing offers an essentially smooth and bright surface, while the satin process makes it more elaborate and "tactile". When satin is double and orthogonal, the texture takes on the name of "Canvas".

How Great Projects from Metal Oxidation are Born

The oxidation of the steel, for example, generated the most requested material of PLANIUM, Calamine, the protagonist of numerous scenarios in Italy and Europe for floors and coatings. With its dark and shadowy chromatic character, divided between a predominance of Blue/Light Blue and Gray with skewers and motifs that form casually and in an original way on each slab, architects and designers have chosen it for transversal projects, with heterogeneous nature.

Among the examples of greatest impact, we find Moscova33 in Milan, Nexion in Bologna, Nike in London and Paris. Calamine is then the main actor equally also in artistic and museum contexts, which well marries for its nature: Palazzo della Signoria in Florence, DASA in Dortmund and Museo del Novecento in Florence. The alternation among the many colors of the exhibitions and the dark tint of Calamine settles on a well -studied harmonious balance.

Also from the oxidation of the steel also a finish called the Stainless Concrete, which gave birth to the floor covering of the Agostini Museum, dedicated to the trophy room of the most titled pilot in history. The choice of the set -up, in the Bergamo area, was born because this type of gray and silver -scale steel tends to echo the motorcycle workshops of the 1950s, sixties, seventy. Not only therefore the setting is industrial, but transcends this style bringing a more suggestive and characterizing connotation to the whole.

It is a similar case that of the Luna Texture, conceived in 2022: a stainless steel in turn originates an area inspired by the selenic one, the cartography of the well -known earthly satellite. In this case, this design processing made its first "official" appearance at the last Milan Design Week, covering floor and walls of a structure very close to the imagination linked to space. The mysterious and elusive nature of the Moon itself has done the rest in terms of fascination. The choice of materials takes into account colors, structure, quality: their resistance in the long run, together with recyclability and scenic effects due to the colors, make them participate and protagonists of an all -round architecture that affects the concept in a broad sense of indoor.
