Maurizio Rossi è nato a Roma dove, terminati gli studi, iniziò la carriera professionale esplorando diversi campi, che vanno dalla progettazione architettonica vera e propria, all’arredamento ed infine, e per un lungo periodo, al calcolo strutturale.Trasferitosi a New York, negli U.S.A. iniziò a collaborare con una azienda progettando mobili per scuole ed uffici e, nello stesso tempo, eseguendo per proprio conto sculture luminose che sfruttavano le peculiarità di materiali acrilici come il plexiglas ed ottenendo con esse un lusinghiero successo sia di pubblico che di critica.Dopo un incontro casuale con un “lighting designer” questi, gli offrì una posizione di progettista nel proprio studio di “architectural lighting design”. In questa nuova situazione professionale, Maurizio Rossi iniziò contestualmente anche lo studio di tutti quei regolari e specifici corsi che gli avrebbero fornito tutte quelle basi teoriche ed accademiche necessarie per divenire un “architectural lighting designer”.In seguito Maurizio Rossi fu formalmente accettato come “Professional Member” dalla IALD International Association of Lighting Designers ( IALD ) che è un albo professionale internazionale nato negli U.S.A. Maurizio Rossi fu attivo, per diversi anni, sia come lighting designer, che come insegnante universitario. Tornato in Italia, aprì nel 1982 a Roma, il suo studio professionale Maurizio Rossi Lighting Design. Da allora MRLD ha eseguito numerosi progetti di illuminazione architettonica in Italia ed all'estero. A tutt’oggi Maurizio Rossi è l’unico lighting designer italiano membro della IALD.
Recentemente la nota rivista inglese di architettura e lighting design Mondo Arc al termine di una ricerca eseguita su base mondiale ha stimato Maurizio Rossi Lighting Design tra i 50 studi di lighting design più influenti nel mondo.
Maurizio Rossi was born in Rome Italy where he completed his studies in architectural and building techniques and began his professional career exploring several related fields; architectural and interior design as well as structural calculations.
When he moved to the United States he applied this experience working with manufacturers designing office and school furniture and at the same time exploring an artistic career with luminous sculptures, using to full advantage the characteristics of materials like Plexiglas, which were favorable hailed by both critics and public.
In 1969 Mr. Rossi was to meet his first “lighting designer” who, after reviewing the professional qualifications, offered him a position in his lighting design firm. At this point Mr. Rossi began to study and attend regular academical lighting design courses to enhance his qualifications in this new field of endeavor.
In 1975 Mr. Rossi was formally accepted as a Corporate Member of the International Association of Lighting designers (IALD) and is still the only lighting designer in Italy to be a Corporate Member of the IALD.
Following these active initial formative years. Mr. Rossi, worked and taught lighting design at university in the USA for several years.
After returning to Italy in 1982 he started his own professional firm, Maurizio Rossi Lighting Design, in Rome, and since then has produced numerous and diversified lighting design projects in Italy and abroad.
M.R.L.D. is a professional firm of independent lighting designers unaffiliated with manufacturing, sales or utilities to ensure impartiality in product selection. M.R.L.D. is devoted to the design of total illumination and control systems for: restaurants, schools,hotels, industrial plants, ships, museums, offices, hospitals, churches, landscapes, residences, shopping malls, stores and all other projects where knowledge of the creative, economic, and technical aspects of the architectural illumination required.
Recently a world survey by the prestigious international architectural lighting design magazine “Mondo Arc” printed in U.K., included Maurizio Rossi Lighting Design among the 50 most influential architectural lighting design firms in the world.
