What Is Slip Form?

Form Slip Form is a method of construction where formwork is continually raised vertically during a work process. It is a method for horizontal construction for a concrete reinforced segment.

It is typically employed to build the core wall for building constriction and elevator shafts and stairwells towers as well as towers. Slip Forming is an independent formwork system that is supported by a crane and may require only a the assistance of cranes in the construction.

Introduction to Slip Formwork

Formwork systems of this kind are able to be constructed using any shape, or even a core. With this technique of concrete construction, slip forms are lifted or raised at the rate of around 300mm/hour, and thereby supporting the core, without relying on support or external support from the structure.

Components of Slip Formwork

Here are a few of the essential components of Slip Form-work.

1. Sheathing or Vertical Forms

Sheathing shapes, also referred to in vertical shapes, could be constructed from staves of wood, metal and plywood glass-fiber reinforced plastic or a mix from these components.

Each material has its own unique properties when it is used in isolation or together. One of the primary goals of vertical forms or sheathing is to mold concrete.

2. Wales

The role that Wales serves Wales is to help hold the vertical form until the process of hardening. Therefore, it is believed as the primary component in vertical slip.

It's also used to be able to support different platforms and scaffoldings, since it is able to transfer the force of lifting from the yoke to other components and parts of form.

3. Yokes

The use of yokes is to join and provide support to wales on a regular basis using legs. It is a component of the vertical slip formwork.

Yokes can transmit lifting forces generated by jacks that are used for the removal of the formwork to the wales. They also have the ability to stop the lateral force generated by plastic concrete inside the structure.

4. Jacks

The jacks are mounted on the jack rod, which is then mounted onto the beam of yokes. It functions as an elevator of the slip, allowing the required force to raise whole slip system.

All of these components, including scaffolds, decks and decks are part of this whole system of slip form. They offer enough space for the concrete process, reinforcing steel and embedding.

5. Jack Rods

Development of Slipform Construction

The ability of concrete and cement to develop enough strength to remain in form after being poured after the 30 minute initial set time led to the invention of the slip form construction. Engineers used this feature to design a formwork system that can move to allow concrete to be continuously poured.

The formwork's elevation is designed in such a way that, in the pouring of the upper formwork the concrete that is poured into the lower formwork will have been able to establish its initial setting. The concrete that is exposed as the formwork is moved up remains in a solid state.

Components of Slipform

The slipform system is constructed with a variety of options. In general, it is comprised of two yoke leg. Yoke legs are used to support and lift all the load of an whole structure in order to function as one unit. Yoke legs are also employed to join scaffoldings, beams, and work platforms to fulfill the supporting role.

In the direction of the yoke leg walk-away brackets connect. These brackets are used to ensure an appropriate placement of the concrete.
